Eurovision 2024: Malmö is the next host city!

Yesterday, July 7th 2023, it became known that the next host city of the Eurovision Song Contest will be the Swedish city Malmö! It is the third time this city hosts the contest (1992, 2013, and 2024). The announcement of Malmö being the upcoming host city was done yesterday by the European Broadcasting Union and the Swedish national broadcaster, SVT.

The dates and the venue

The dates of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 are May 7th, 9th, and 11th 2024, and the host city will be Malmö (Sweden), a city that hosted the contest before back in 1992 and 2013. The venue will be the Malmö Arena, and it is the second time around that this venue will be the décor of the contest.

Malmö Arena

The Malmö Arena can place about 15,000 spectators, and has a great connection infrastructure-wise, since it is connected by rail to the city centre of Malmö and also to Copenhagen Airport and its city centre. The Malmö Arena opened in 2008.

Sweden as the next host country

Sweden will be the next host country of the Eurovision Song Contest after Loreen’s grand win last May. It is the seventh time Sweden has won the contest (tying with Ireland for the most wins of the contest), it is the first time a female artist has won the contest twice, and it is the second time that an artist has won the contest twice (Ireland’s Johnny Logan did it before).

The previous Swedish host cities were the following:

Stockholm: 1975, 2000, and 2016
Gothenburg: 1985
Malmö: 1992 and 2013

This year’s contest is won by Sweden’s Loreen with the song “Tattoo”. Loreen’s win marks the first time a female singer has won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, since Loreen also won the 2012 song contest with the song “Euphoria”, which is one of the most successful songs in Eurovision history. Next to this, Loreen is the second singer to win the contest twice; Irish Johnny Logan came before her.
