After Loreen’s historic win just two weeks ago, the rumour mill was working overtime, because almost immediately after the Grand Final of 2023 there was talk about the legendary Swedish band ABBA reuniting for Eurovision 2024. Now we know that, although it would be very cool, the band will not come back together again to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of their win.
Confirmation
The two men of ABBA, Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson gave confirmation that ABBA will not get back together nor perform during the Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden next year. The two former band members said that ABBA’s win 50 years ago can easily be celebrated without them being on stage.
Sweden’s 2024 entry
Bjorn and Benny also said that they will not compose Sweden’s 2024 entry, which was also rumoured to being a thing when it comes down to the upcoming contest in Sweden.
Sweden in the Eurovision Song Contest
Sweden has won the Eurovision Song Contest a whopping seven times, which means that both Ireland and Sweden have won the contest the most.
EUROVISION 2023
This year’s contest is won by Sweden’s Loreen with the song “Tattoo”. Loreen’s win marks the first time a female singer has won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, since Loreen also won the 2012 song contest with the song “Euphoria”, which is one of the most successful songs in Eurovision history. Next to this, Loreen is the second singer to win the contest twice; Irish Johnny Logan came before her.
