Cyprus 2024: Silia Kapsis releases her entry “Liar”!

Today this year’s Cypriot contestant, Silia Kapsis, revealed her Eurovision entry “Liar”. Since September 25th 2023 we know that Silia is going to represent Cyprus in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden), and since January 16th 2024 we know that the name of Silia’s entry is “Liar”.

About the song “Liar”

Cypriot Silia Kapsis’ entry is called “Liar” and was written by well-known music professionals, like: Dimitris Kontopoulos and Elke Tiel. The song is not necessarily about lying in a relationship, but it is “also about situations that are not truthful and come across as deceiving”, said Silia during an interview. The meaning of the song is also reflected in the music video. The video was shot in Cyprus, in Limassol to be precise.

Internal selection

Silia Kapsis was chosen internally by the Cypriot national broadcaster, CyBC. There was a bit of controversy surrounding this year’s selection of Cyprus, because at first they wanted to choose their representative through a Greek televised TV show, which is against the rules of the EBU, which stated that a televised selection should take place in the country where the representative is competing for.

When will Cyprus perform in Eurovision 2024?

In Eurovision 2024 Cyprus will perform in the first half of Semi-final 1 on May 7th 2024.

Who competed for Cyprus in Eurovision 2023?

In the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool (UK) Cyprus was represented by Andrew Lambrou with the song “Break a Broken Heart”. Andrew did well in the competition, ending 7th (of 16) in Semi-final 2, and eventually taking 12th place (of 26) in the Grand Final.
