Junior Eurovision Junior Eurovision 2024 Spain

Chloe DelaRosa will represent Spain in Junior Eurovision 2024.

She will be the 10th artist to have the honor of representing Spain in the contest. She was chosen after a casting process that had around 300 applicants.

Chloe DelaRosa will be the Spanish flag bearer at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024, which will take place in Madrid for the first time, in Madrid on Saturday, November 16. The young artist from Extremadura was chosen from a total of 290 candidates who applied.

The open call by RTVE to select the Spanish representative this year has been a resounding success, receiving a total of 290 applications, which means that the number has almost tripled compared to last year and is the highest since Spain’s return to the competition in 2019.

With her selection, this will be Spain’s 10th proposal in Junior Eurovision. A very special edition that will be held at home, where the country will try to repeat María Isabel’s victory 20 years later. Chloe DelaRosa thus joins the successful list of Spanish representatives in the children’s contest such as Sergio (2003), María Isabel (2004), Antonio José (2005), Dani Fernández (2006), Melani García (2019), Soleá (2020), Levi Díaz (2021), Carlos Higes (2022), and Sandra Valero (2023).

The press conference where it was revealed that Chloe will be the Spanish representative took place on the morning of July 18, attended by María Eizaguirre, director of communication and participation at RTVE; Ana María Bordas, head of the Spanish delegation at Junior Eurovision; and César Vallejo, co-director of the Benidorm Fest and member of the panel of experts.

The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 will take place in Madrid, Spain, on Saturday, November 16, starting at 18:00 CET. The Spanish capital will be the city of European children’s and youth music. The chosen venue is the Caja Mágica, an extraordinary multipurpose space equipped with the best technical features to offer a high-level show.

From RTVE, head of delegation Ana María Bordas confirmed that the first meetings have already taken place along with the reference group’s visit to the Caja Mágica in Madrid. Preparations are ongoing: “We have already chosen the artistic team and will soon present the entire creative image,” she added. She also confirmed that the festival will be held on the main court of the venue with an estimated capacity of 6,000 spectators.

Meet Chloe DelaRosa

Chloe DelaRosa was born in Mérida on January 27, 2015, and is currently 9 years old, living in Guareña (Badajoz). From a very young age, she has been immersed in the world of music, as she started performing on stage at her father David de la Rosa’s concerts when she was just 3 years old. He would invite her to dance and share all her charm and talent.

Chloe describes herself as a “cantista,” a combination of the words singer (“cantante”) and artist (“artista”), showcasing her creativity and talent both on stage and in other aspects of her daily life.

In 2020, during the pandemic and with many hours spent at home, Chloe began recording music videos with her brothers Joel and Alexander, as well as solo videos. In these videos, she covered songs by various famous artists, and they were so moving that they ended up being shared on social media by the singers themselves. Dani Martin posted about her on Instagram, saying, “I don’t know who this girl is, but she made me cry. Happy days to everyone!” Rosario Flores even invited her to one of her concerts to dance, and her covers have also been shared on social media by many other great artists such as Camilo, Alejandro Sanz, C. Tangana, Antonio Carmona, Carlos Vives, Marc Anthony, Camela, Juan Magán, Rigoberta Bandini, and Mau y Ricky, among many others.

But she has not only risen to fame for her musical and dancing talents, but also for her educational or humorous videos, adding her unique touch and often accompanied by a doll named Marisol. This doll is so important to her that she always brings it to her concerts and performances.

With her success, she has become a regular on the regional Extremadura channel, Canal Extremadura, along with some appearances on the Andalusian regional television, Canal Sur. We have seen her as a reporter in parades, performing in magazines, and even in some reports and live segments from her daily life at home.

Flamenco is the style she is most known for. In 2022, she began participating in major music festivals in our country and has since released numerous singles such as “Malita mala,” “Mi mamá me mima,” “En la orillita de la Caleta,” and Christmas carols like “Tran tran tran.”

Her latest song, “Como un rayito de sol,” was released on June 14, 2024.

The song will be selected internally

Now it’s time to select Chloe de la Rosa’s song. RTVE will internally choose the song with which Spain will participate in the 22nd edition of the European competition. It should be noted that, at the official presentation of the Benidorm Fest 2025 last Monday, July 8, César Vallejo highlighted that a call has been made to composers and authors for Junior Eurovision 2024 to find the most suitable song for Spain’s future representative. In this way, the independent selection of the artist and song is maintained.

This Has Been the Selection Process for Chloe de la Rosa
After the success of previous editions, RTVE maintains the format of choosing the singer through two phases: an online phase and an in-person phase.

PHASE I: CALL [COMPLETED]

From Tuesday, May 14 at 12:00 CEST until Wednesday, July 3 at 23:59 CEST, interested boys and girls could fill out the form on the RTVE website. They had to include all the artist’s details along with a signed authorization from both parents, as well as submit two videos singing to demonstrate their vocal and interpretive abilities.

PHASE II: IN-PERSON CASTING [COMPLETED]

On Tuesday, July 16 in the morning, the second part took place, consisting of an in-person casting. It was held at the RTVE studios in Madrid. Out of the 290 applications, a total of 16 finalists attended the in-person casting, where they performed two songs for an internal committee to evaluate and decide who should represent Spain at Junior Eurovision 2024.

After the in-person casting, the internal committee presented the results and deliberations to the RTVE management.

PHASE III: ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE REPRESENTATIVE [COMPLETED]

On Thursday, July 18, RTVE held a press conference where the chosen representative for Junior Eurovision 2024 was finally announced.

This press meeting was led by María Eizaguirre, director of communication and participation at RTVE. Also in attendance were Ana María Bordas, head of the Spanish delegation at Junior Eurovision, and César Vallejo, co-director of the Benidorm Fest and member of the panel of experts.

PHASE IV: THE SONG WILL BE CHOSEN INTERNALLY [IN PROGRESS]

After the in-person casting, RTVE will internally choose the song with which Spain will participate in the 22nd edition of the European competition. The public broadcaster is expected to work with a broad group of national and international composers, as in 2022 and 2023.

Finally, this song will be assigned to the individual artist or group chosen to represent our country. RTVE will choose the song that best suits their vocal characteristics. As in the past year, the selected artist is expected to perform the finalist songs for the internal committee to evaluate and score the most appropriate one.

PHASE V: RECORDING OF THE SONG AND VIDEO CLIP

In September, the selected artist will record the song chosen by RTVE along with the music video. Additionally, the broadcaster will publish Spain’s proposal for Junior Eurovision 2024, as usual in previous editions, during prime time in a break of one of its major entertainment formats to reach the largest possible audience.

Spain in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest
Spain participated in Junior Eurovision for the first time in 2003, being one of the 16 countries that inaugurated the festival in Copenhagen, Denmark. In this first edition, Sergio with his song “Desde El Cielo” placed 2nd with 125 points. The following year, in Lillehammer, Norway, with 171 points, María Isabel with her song “Antes Muerta Que Sencilla” achieved Spain’s only victory to date.

Another 2nd place in 2005 and a 4th place in 2006 marked the end of a successful first phase of Spain in Junior Eurovision. In these four consecutive editions, the contest gained great popularity among the Spanish public, largely thanks to the preselections with which RTVE chose its representatives, such as Eurojunior. Moreover, they marked the beginning of the musical careers of many singers who are present in the Spanish music market today, such as Blas Cantó (who represented Spain in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021), Dani Fernández, and Antonio José.

Despite the resounding success of the festival, the public corporation decided to withdraw from the competition in 2007, arguing that it “promoted stereotypes that were not shared.” During these years of absence, the public’s interest in Junior Eurovision remained, and the EBU attempted, albeit unsuccessfully, to bring Spain back to the contest. Finally, on June 25, 2019, RTVE announced its long-awaited return after 13 years of absence. In this second phase, the public entity opted for internal selections and managed to maintain the high standard of previous years. Both Melani with her song “Marte” in 2019 and Soleá with “Palante” in 2021 achieved a remarkable 3rd place. In 2021, Levi Díaz with “Reír” reached the 15th place with 77 points.

In the 20th edition of the contest held in Yerevan (Armenia), Carlos Higes with “Señorita” placed 6th with 137 points, being the second most voted proposal of the 20th edition by the public on the online platform.

Spain is one of the countries with the best track record in Junior Eurovision, ranking among the top six positions in eight out of its nine participations.

In Nice 2023, Spain was represented by Sandra Valero and her song “LOVIU,” with which she came close to winning the crystal microphone at the Palais Nikaïa in the coastal city of France. She achieved 201 points, resulting in a great 2nd place. She secured 3rd place in the voting from national juries, receiving 12 points from Estonia, France, Georgia, and Italy. Additionally, Spain maintained 2nd place in the online voting as in 2022.
