Tomorrow, February 1st 2025, the national final of Belgian Eurosong 2025, takes place. This year it is up to the Flemish-speaking part of Belgium to choose a participant for the Eurovision Song Contest, which this time around will take place in Basel, Switzerland.
Eurosong 2025
This edition of Belgian Eurosong will take place in the EMG Studios in the Belgian city of Vilvoorde, which is part of Belgium’s capital Brussels. 8 acts will take the stage. The acts were first showcased on January 18th and 25th 2025, during which 4 acts per show sang a Eurovision song of their choice, and eventually sang their potential 2025 entry. During the Eurosong 2025 final all acts will perform solely their Eurovision entry.
The final decision will be made by both a professional jury and televoting. The eventual winner will be decided by 50% professional jury results, and 50% televoting.
The 8 acts are…
Below you can find which 8 acts will participate in Belgian Eurosong 2025, in the order that they will perform during this national final.
- LEEZ – Perfectly Imperfect
- Le Manou – Fille à papa
- Jelle van Dael – Monster
- Mentissa – Désolée
- Lenn – Air Balloon
- Stefanie Callebaut – Gloria
- Red Sebastian – Strobe Lights
- Grace – Pull Up
A preview of the songs
I have tried to come up with a preview of each song, based on the performances during the preview shows of Eurosong 2025. The acts during the final will be performed on a bigger stage, and will have different features from the performances in the 2 preview shows.
LEEZ – Perfectly Imperfect
The song is good, but is not memorable, based on the circus Eurovision can be. The chorus does not really stick. The song reminds me of “Sand” by Saba from Denmark in 2024, and we all know how that song ranked. The voice of LEEZ is definitely not the problem though.
Le Manou – Fille à Papa
Filla à papa (trans. ‘Daddy’s Girl’) has a modern vibe, and is very “now”. Le Manou is a DJ, and co-produced this song. The song remains in your head, and has a very catchy chorus. Le Manou’s tune is also sung well for this type of song. Now that Luxembourg has chosen Laura Thorn’s “La Poupée Monte Le Son” to participate in this year’s contest, this song by Le Manou feels like it is already in the contest. The styling of Le Manou needs work, but this can be done easily for the national final. Fille à Papa is a fun French Summer song for sure, but also has Junior Eurovision vibes.
Jelle van Dael – Monster
The song feels grand, especially when sung in a huge arena, but Jelle’s voice is hurting this tune, it is hard to get passed this for me. Styling-wise there are issues as well, but I am sure there will be changes made for her final performance tomorrow. I am not sure about how memorable this song is. I have doubts, because it is incredibly repetitive.
Mentissa – Désolée
The first song in the line-up that, with some huge tweaks in the performance, could be a potential winner, because that chorus is in my head for days now. The voice of Mentissa will not be the problem, because it is grand. Mentissa is already famous in France, and because of that she is also in other French-speaking countries; this might mean she could benefit from gathering points in the contest from these countries. I would not be mad if Mentissa would represent Belgium in Basel.
Lenn – Air Balloon
Lenn’s grandfather, Louis Neefs, participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for Belgium in both 1967 and 1969, and his dad, Gunther Neefs, was in the Belgian Eurovision preselection of 1996, but did not make it to the contest. For Lenn this is his first step onto the stage on his own, previously he was only known from his music on social media. For me, personally, this is the least favourable song to win out of the eight. Lenn lacks stage presence, the song is forgettable, and the styling seems off. Lenn cannot be blamed, he needs some more time to work on things probably.
Stefanie Callebaut – Gloria
Shakespears Sister, Björk, Gwen Stefani, Duffy, and more seem to be part of the many personalities that Stefanie Callebaut has gathered in her body. This song does nothing for me with all the belting, the seemingly different types of music in one song, the odd way the song is performed by Stefanie. For me it is a big “no no”, but the Flemish part of Belgium also has a nose for choosing a song in their national final that does not work in Eurovision, remember “O Julissi” by the band Ishtar in Eurovision 2008 or Axel Hirsoux’ “Mother” in 2014?!
Red Sebastian – Strobe Lights
“Yes, yes, yes” to everything that Red Sebastian is serving us in this preview performance! Imagine how grand his performance will be in tomorrow’s final or…in a huge arena. This huge wink to ‘90’s house music and Eurodance is amazing. The more than crystal clear winner for me. One thing: I hope there is more of a visual performance or that there are dancers in the final performance, but that is really the only pointer I can think of. Go Belgium, go Red Sebastian!
Grace – Pull Up
The voice of Grace is not the problem, but the song feels like a dated Mya RnB song, like “Case Of The Ex”, also because of the performance with the cane. The song does not stick, and might just be there in Eurovision. It is a shame, because the voice on Grace is amazing. Maybe she can pull it together for her national performance.
The verdict
All the comments are based on the preview versions and performances of all songs, so it can be that tomorrow, during the Belgian national final, things will look and be performed differently. Based on what we can see now, my top 3 would be the following:
- Red Sebastian – Strobe Lights
- Mentissa – Désolée
- Le Manou – Fille à Papa
Who knows what might happen tomorrow though, we are not sure of how acts will shine during their final performance in Eurosong 2025.
