Belgium 2023: Artist’s choice

On December 15th 2022 we reported about snippets of the Belgian national final songs being released. We learned that each of the seven artists which will perform during “Eurosong 2023” had submitted two songs, but now we know that each artist can choose themselves which of their two songs they will perform live during the national final on January 14th 2023.

Song choice shows

By now we know that the seven Belgian hopefuls of Eurosong 2023, the Belgian national final, will perform their two potential songs during a daily full song reveal, which will be broadcast in the week leading up to the final, so daily as of January 7th 2023 at 19:00 CET (after the VRT NWS Journaal) on Belgian Dutch-language TV channel, Eén. In these daily programs the competing artists will present their two songs, and they will pick one that they are going to perform during the Belgian national final. The performances will take place in front of the other competing acts, and the location will be Tournai, in the west of Belgium.

In these song choice shows the other artists can give their feedback on the songs of their peers, which can also result in acts handing each other the victory, which is kind of a unique approach.

The Belgian national final

The Belgian national final will take place on January 14th 2023 in Belgium’s capital city, Brussels. The venue for the final, which will be broadcast live on the Belgian public broadcaster Eén, will be Paleis 12/Palais 12. A combination of a jury of experts and public televoting will be used to decide who is going to wave the Belgian flag in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool (United Kingdom).

Eurovision 2022

In the contest of 2022 Belgium ended in 8th place in Semi-final 2, and finally Belgian representative Jérémie Makiese sang the song “Miss You” to a 19th place (out of 25) in the Grand Final.
