This is the second Eurovision participation for the talented singer Greta Salóme, as she represented Iceland at Eurovision 2012 in a duet with Jonsi. They performed “Never Forget” coming 20th at the Grand Final.
Six acts competed at today’s show:
- Greta Salóme – Hear Them Calling
- Hjörtur Traustason & Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir – I Promised You Then
- Karlotta Sigurðardóttir – The Eye Of The Storm
- Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir & Guðmundur Snorri Sigurðarson – Ready To Break Free
- Elísabet Ormslev – Á ný
- Alda Dís Arnardóttir – Now
The winner of Söngavekeppnin 2016 was decided after two voting rounds. In the first one, the six candidates performed their songs and a 50-50 mix of televoting and regional jury selected the two acts which advanced to a superfinal:
- Greta Salóme – Hear Them Calling
- Alda Dís Arnardóttir – Now
In the superfinal, both songs were performed again and the overall winner was chosen solely by televoting.
Ragnhildur Steinunn Jónsdóttir & Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir were in charge of hosting the show, which featured some guest performances: Sandra Kim (Winner of Eurovision 1986), Loreen (Winner of Eurovision 2012) and former Icelandic participants performing a medley to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Söngvakeppnin.
