Today, Bulgarian broadcaster held a press conference to release to the public the information about the internal selection made for Bulgaria’s Eurovision return. Victoria will wave the country’s flag on the big stage in Rotterdam:
VICTORIA became popular after participating in the 4th season of X Factor Bulgaria. Her latest single, I Wanna Know, gained hundreds of thousands of streams across YouTube and Spotify over the summer. She presented the official video of the song in Sofia and Madrid. Her debut solo album is expected to be released in 2020.
Genoveva Christova, producer and manager of VICTORIA, believes that Eurovision will be the next step in VICTORIA’s future as an international artist. The Ligna Studios CEO is confident that the return of Bulgaria will open many doors for the local creative industry in the country:
“I would like to thank BNT for the trust and the cooperative attitude. I believe that Eurovision is a platform that should be used for the development of the whole creative sector in Bulgaria. Our effort is to unite the skills and the dreams of the creative people here and to give them international exposure We are also extremely proud to help the Eurovision cause in Bulgaria as we feel committed to the values the contest represents. I hope that someday Eurovision will come to Bulgaria. We feel clearly represented by the slogan of this year’s Eurovision “Open Up” and we will do our best to bring that message to every corner of our country.”
In 2018, after initially confirming for Eurovision 2019, broadcaster BNT withdrew. Bulgaria also saw a break in Eurovision participation in the 2014 and 2015 editions of Eurovision. When they returned in 2016 they went on a three year run of making the finals and producing internally selected fan favorites. In 2016 and 2017, in particular, they were amongst the favorites to win Eurovision with Poli Genova (If Love was a Crime) and Kristian Kostov (Beautiful Mess).
