Where first the invasion of Russia could cause a problem for this year’s Ukrainian entrants, Kalush Orchestra, now it is confirmed that they will perform live during the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy.
Live performance
Last week it became known that the Ukrainian government gave Kalush Orchestra the green light to leave the country and to perform live during the Eurovision Song Contest 2022. Next to this, Kalush Orchestra got permission to promote their entry all over Europe. At the moment is making plans on how to coordinate everything.
Performance in Lviv
Kalush Orchestra has gone to Lviv to perform their song “Stefania” for the very first time after Russia invaded the country of Ukraine. This performance is not only an event of reunion, but also meant to raise funds for the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities that were affected heavily by the war in the country.
More about Kalush Orchestra
Kalush (trans. “scoundrel”) was formed in 2019, and started out as a srap group. The band members of the group are: Oleh Psiuk who raps, Ihor Didenchuk who plays several instruments, and MC Kilimmen who is a DJ. Fun fact is that Ihor is a member of the group Go_A that represented Ukraine last year in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. In 2021 Kalush launched a different version of their group, with the name “Kalush Orchestra”, this group fuses rap with folk music. To do so, there were two group members added to the existing Kalush, Vitalii Duzhyk and Tymofii Muzychuk.
Eurovision Song Contest 2022
This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 10th (Semi-final 1), 12th (Semi-final 2), and on the 14th (Grand Final) in Turin, Italy.
