Eurovision Eurovision 2018 Spain

Tonight: Spain select its 2018 Eurovision entry

Fiesta! RTVE is ready to go through its next Eurovision experience by choosing the act that will represent the country in Lisbon…and they are doing it bigger than ever!

Decision time in the Iberian peninsula, this time in Spain. Tonight, Radio Televisión Española (RTVE) will select the artist or artists as well as the song that will fly the Spanish flag in Lisbon. As you know from several weeks back, well-known talent show Operación Triunfo has been used once again as the selection process of the Spanish act at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. This also happened in the past when Rosa, Beth and Ramón got their well-deserved ticket to the contest back in 2002, 2003 and 2004, respectively.

Tonight, out of the following nine possible combinations, only one of them will get the right to step onto the ESC stage in May:

  • GROUP SONG: Alfred, Amaia, Aitana, Ana Guerra & Miriam – “Camina” (Eurovision Version)
  • Aitana – “Arde”
  • Amaia – “Al Cantar”
  • Alfred – “Que Nos Sigan Las Luces”
  • Ana Guerra – “El Remedio”
  • Miriam – “Lejos de tu piel”
  • DUET 1: Alfred & Amaia – “Tu Canción”
  • DUET 2: Aitana & Ana Guerra – “Lo Malo”
  • DUET 3: Miriam & Agoney – “Magia”

The winner will be selected via 100% televoting divided into two different rounds: the three entries gaining most of the votes from the audience in the first round will then advance to a further second one. Phone-lines, SMS and app-voting will be re-opened and the audience will be solely casting their vote again in order to pick the best option for Portugal.

The show will be introduced by TV personality Roberto Leal, who has been in charge of conducting the weekly show since it began in October.

A panel of music and TV experts such as Salvador’s sister Luísa Sobral; Spanish Eurovision commentator Julia Varela; Eurovision.tv editor Víctor Escudero and music executive and artistic director at Universal Music Spain, Manuel Martos will also be delivering their views on the performances, without any impact on the final outcome. Manel Navarro will be handing over the right to represent Spain at Eurovision to the winner tonight and Conchita will be performing the 2014 ESC winning entry “Rise Like A Phoenix”.

International Latin-music star J Balvin will perform a medley of “Machika” and “Mi Gente”, and the eliminated contestants of Operación Triunfo 2017 will perform a medley of the Spanish Eurovision winning songs “La, la, la” and “Vivo Cantando”.

You can tune in to watch the Spanish national final tonight at 22:35 (CET) by clicking HERE.

Polls and fans predictions show that Almaia, the duet made up by Alfred & Amaia, will be taking the win with their piano ballad “Tu Canción” (Your Song), written by Raúl Gómez. Also closely followed by the reggaeton track “Lo Malo” (Morgan, Will Simms, Brisa Fenoy) and Aitana’s Arde (Alba Reig).

Will this time be a lucky one for Spain at Eurovision? Will the Spanish audience make the right choice tonight? Stay tuned and find out tonight on ESC+Plus who will be singing for Spain at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest!
