Eurovision Eurovision 2020 Norway

Tonight: Melodi Grand Prix continues in Oslo

Tonight, the big six-week extravaganza continues live from Oslo. As Norway pays special attention to its contests’ sixtieth anniversary we will once again see four acts compete for a spot in the Grand Final on February 15th.

Last week we learned the 5 artists pre-qualified for the Grand Final as chosen by a jury led by Stig Karlsen. For the remaining hopefuls, Melodi Grand Prix 2020 will consist of 5 semi-finals before the national final, one for each region of Norway (North, Central, West, South, East). The 2020 competition will not include a European jury. The winner of MGP 2020 will be strictly in the hands of the Norwegian viewers. The first ticket to the final through this method was awarded to Raylee.

So who will emerge victorious and join Raylee and the five acts selected by the expert jury in the Grand Final?

WHO WILL TAKE PART?

The acts competing in tonight’s Heat 2 of Melodi Grand Prix 2020 are:

Tore Petterson – ‘The Start of Something New’

Tore is a Norweigan comedian with a bit of live jazz music experience to his name. The entry is a bonafide Harry Connick / Michael Buble upbeat pop crossover.

Rein Alexander – ‘One Last Time’

Rein has a musical theater background. He has played roles in musicals like Les Miserables and Chess. His last recording was back in 2017. This entry is a driving upbeat number with a bit of an indigenous vibe to the instrumentation.

JAEGER – ‘How About Mars’

JAEGER performed as Anna Jaeger on a season of the Norweigan edition of The Voice. She was raised in Canada and the United States and that’s where she gets most of her inspiration from. Some of the artists that inspire her are Tove Lo, Billie Eilish, Robyn and Elle King. ‘How About Mars’ definitely evokes some of those artists.

Kim Wigaard and Maria Mohn – ‘Fool For Love’

Kim is a well-known singer in the Norwegian music industry. He is known from several TV-shows, musicals, opera and revues. Also as a model and vocal coach. Maria is a musician, pianist, singer and songwriter who debuted as a solo artist in 2010 with the album Join Me. She currently is a singing teacher. ‘Fool For Love’ serves up dramatic Broadway duet stylings.

In addition to the four semi-finalists competing, we will also get to hear one of the finalists that were put through by the expert jury. Tonight it will be the brothers, Didrik and Emil with their entry ‘Out of Air’

WHO WILL DECIDE?

The songs will compete in a duel style faceoff until there is a winner. We don’t yet know the pairings and this may only be revealed at the time of broadcast. What we do know is that ultimately the fans will decide the winner. The jury has already determined the songs to be sent to the final, so the heats are the fans’ chance to decide which of the songs still looking for a spot in the final should go through. Viewers can only vote through NRK.no.

In total, there will be ten participants in the final on 15 February, and the Norwegian television viewers will announce the winner. The selected winning song will represent Norway at the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in The Netherlands.

WHO IS THE FAVOURITE TO WIN?

JAEGER is the clear favorite to win, but Rein Alexander may have an upset in his bones

WHERE TO WATCH
