Astronomers predict that supernova will appear in the sky in 2022. Fortunately, Eurovision fans don’t have to wait that long to see the star explosion on their television screen.
Grab your chips, pour some wine! The first semifinal of the Latvian national selection, Supernova, is happening this weekend.
On Saturday, February 3rd, Latvian Television (LTV) will broadcast the first heat of Supernova 2018 at 21.30 CET. Expect to see some Latvian music experts and Eurovision savvy in the jury’s table! Musician Jānis Lūsēnu and Jānis Gulbi-Paškevičs will be the honorary juries, while music editor DJ Rudd will serve as the head judge. Last year’s Supernova winner, lead vocalist of Triana Park will join the panel as well.

Seven acts will compete in each semi-final, but only two will advance to the grand final. In the first heat of Supernova, we will be greeted by Folk Group Katrina Gupalo and The Black Birds, Rahu the Fool, the DVINES duo, Agnese Stengrevic, Latvian popular group Sudden Lights, last year’s returning contestant Edgar Kreilis, and reality star Liene Greifāne.
