Because of the covid-19 pandemic, SVT decided to host all Melodifestivalen 2021 shows in Stockholm without audience.
Melodifestivalen will be the same for the TV viewers next year. But the pandemic has stopped the tour, so all six programs will be broadcast from one place in Stockholm. It will premiere on Saturday 6th February, and the final will take place on 13th March.
A Melodifestivalen tour requires long planning. At present, it is not allowed to arrange events for a larger audience and no one knows what it will look like after the New Year’s. Therefore, it is not possible for SVT, host cities or tour coordinators to plan a tour in 2021, says Anette Helenius, project manager of Melodifestivalen.
It is 20 years since the Melodifestivalen tour started and we will celebrate this extra this year. If there is ever a time we need to gather around, agree on and think differently about, it is now. Despite the situation, we are happy that we will be able to offer an exciting music competition and great show just as usual. Melodifestivalen is and continues to be our tradition, says Anette Helenius.
It is still unknown whether the shows will be broadcast from a studio or from an arena without audience.
