RTP has just announced they won’t be joining next year’s edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. The broadcaster won’t be taking part at Eurovision 2016 due to some changes in the broadcast programming for next year, but they promise to come back in 2017!
Last year’s Portuguese representative, Leonor Andrade, shared her feelings with our editor Alesia Michelle right after the announcement: “It is not a farewell, just a see you later”, she said.
Portugal has participated in Eurovision 48 times since its debut back in 1964. 2016 will become the fifth missed year after 1970, 2000, 2002 and 2013. Since their last come-back, they haven’t managed to reach the final despite getting a 11th place in the 2014 semi-final.
