Portugal 2023: The release of the 20 national final acts

RTP, the Portuguese national broadcaster, has announced the 20 acts of the national final of Portugal, “Festival da Canção 2023”.

In Lisbon the Portuguese national broadcaster, RTP, has announced the 20 acts and songs of the national final of Portugal, Festival da Canção 2023. One of these acts will represent Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023 in Liverpool (United Kingdom).

Composers and singers

RTP has revealed the twenty composers that are competing in the selection. 15 out of the 20 composers were invited by RTP (originally there were 16, but one had to decline because of personal reasons). 5 entries of the national final were chosen by the public; these “public” entries were submitted in great numbers, 667 songs in total.

Notable name

A notable name in the line-up of Festival da Canção 2023 is Cláudia Pascoal, who already represented Portugal in 2018, when the country was the host city during Lisbon 2018. Claudia sang the song “O Jardim”, and ended 26th (of 26), thus came in last.

The format

The format of Festival da Canção 2023 is the following:

  • Semi-Final 1: February 25th 2023 (5 chosen acts and 1 wildcard)
  • Semi-Final 2: March 4th 2023 (5 chosen acts, 1 wildcard)
  • Final: March 11th 2023 (12 competing acts, 1 winner)

Eurovision 2022

In the contest of 2022 Portugal was represented by singer Maro, who sang the song “Saudade Saudade”. Maro came in 4th in Semi-final 1, and she  eventually got 9th (of 25) in the Grand Final.
