Netherlands 2024: It is Joost Klein for the Netherlands!

Artist Joost Klein will represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden), this was announced this morning on the media of the Dutch national broadcaster, AVROTROS. After months of speculation three artists were rumoured to be still in the race (Karsu, Numidia, and Joost Klein), but it eventually was Joost Klein who convinced the Dutch selection committee the most.

Joost’s song for Eurovision 2024 will be announced on a yet to be released date. We do know that song will be in Dutch, and that it is co-written with Dutch-language hit machine, Donnie.

The selection

It is Dutch Joost Klein who is going to represent the Netherlands in Eurovision 2024! Joost is well-known in the Netherlands, but also in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium (Flanders) for his performances full of energy, and his popularity is expanding abroad, because of his beats that are very catchy, but also his sharp lyrics. The song that Joost Klein sent to the Dutch selection committee was chosen over more than 600 submissions, but it was the European hit potential of Joost Klein’s song that convinced the selection committee to choose him.

About the selection of Joost Klein and his song Twan van de Nieuwenhuijzen, Head of the Dutch Selection Committee stated the following:

“Following a careful and multi-phase process, the selection committee ultimately opted for Joost Klein. There were a lot of entries from a wide range of genres, but in our view his had the most hit potential. In the song, you hear his familiar mix of party and nostalgia.

“With his enormous creativity, we think Joost can put on a great show in a totally original way, and that the Netherlands and Europe are in for a positive surprise. We’re really looking forward to working with him.”

Joost Klein said the following about his selection:

“Taking part in the Eurovision Song Contest is a dream come true. I used to watch it together with my parents, glued to the screen, year after year. It’s an honor to represent the Netherlands, and I’m committed to giving my all for the best possible outcome.”

Joost Klein, also known as simply “Joost”, was born in the northern city of Leeuwarden om November 10th 1997. Joost is a Dutch musician, writer, and former Dutch-language YouTube star. The genres of music that are typically Joost Klein are pop and happy hardcore. He is known for songs, such as: Scandinavian Boy, Wachtmuziek, Ome Robert, and Friesenjung, but he also released several albums, like: M van Marketing, Albino, and 1983.

Campaign

Joost Klein has been dreaming to go to the Eurovision Song Contest for years, and he was very public about this, claiming that he would be able to write a song that would do very well in Eurovision. A Dutch radio station started a petition that was signed by over 24,000 people that wanted Joost Klein to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden), and in 2024 Joost’s dream will come true.
