Netherlands 2024: Douwe Bob submits two songs to compete in the upcoming contest

A couple of months ago Dutch 2016 Eurovision entrant, Douwe Bob (11th in the Grand Final of 2016 with the song “Slow Down”), expressed his interest in returning to the contest someday, and now it became known that he wrote a song to compete in the 2024 internal selection of the Netherlands, and that he also submitted a song for himself.

The submission window of the Netherlands closed on September 30th 2023; the Dutch selection commission received a record-breaking number of songs, over 600 in total.

Numidia

Singer Numidia will be the lucky one who will compete in the contest in Malmö with a song written by Douwe Bob, if she is the one who gets internally selected to compete for the Netherlands next year in Malmö (Sweden). Young Dutch-Moroccan singer, Numidia, is in Dutch entertainment news a lot these days because she is in the Dutch hit show “De Beste Zangers” (trans. “The Best Singers”), a program that is broadcasted by the Dutch public broadcaster, AVROTROS. The premises of the show is that a group of singers sing each other’s songs in a different version. Dutch 2019 Eurovision winner, Duncan Laurence, and 2016 Eurovision entrant, Douwe Bob, are also in the show this season. There is nothing known about the song that Douwe Bob wrote, except that it is sung in both English and Berber, and that it is about connecting people.

Next to this, Douwe Bob has submitted a song for himself, so he has two chances to return to the contest. About this song nothing is known for the time being. Douwe Bob did state however that if it would be between the song he wrote for Numidia and the song he wrote for himself, that he would make sure that Numidia enters the contest, since he already competed in 2016.

Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest 2023

In the contest of 2023 in Liverpool (UK) the Netherlands was represented by Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper with the song “Burning Daylight”. It turned out to be the Netherlands’ worst result in years, because the country ended up in 13th place (of 15) in Semi-final 1, thus not making it to the Grand Final.
