Malta: TVM reveals official 70 preliminary acts for Copenhagen

Today TVM, Eurovision broadcaster in Malta, announced its 70 songs out from a breaking record of 210, which are still bidding to represent the island at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark. Official singers for the songs and composers were also revealed.

We can check that several familiar faces tried over again, it is no chance this time for Claudia Faniello, usually in the race almost every year, but Dorothy Bezzina, Amber, Davinia Pace, Jessica Muscat, Franklin Calleja, Chris Grech, Corazon Mizzi and Deborah C are back despite failing to do it last year, where Gianluca managed to bring a successful top 8 back to Malta with Tomorrow.

Fabricio Faniello, Claudia’s bother who already entered the contest in 2001 and 2006, could do it another one with her new entry composed by Swedish author Johan Bejerholm, ‘Just No Place Like Home’. 1996 Maltese performer Miriam Christine has also advanced to this phase.

Sophie Debattista, who entered the Junior contest in Romania 2006, has also made it through this next phase of the selection as well as  JESC 2008 singer, Daniel Testa.

As in the composers, well-known on sending songs to this selection, Philip Vella, Gerard James Borg  and Peter Borg as well as Maltese act from 2011, Glen Vella and Swedish X-Factor winner Erik Grönwall will also be trying out. Some others well known for the ESC fans are Michael James Down (actually entering as a singer on the Swiss one), Primoz Poglajen, Jonas Gladnikoff, as they were composing many good songs for a lot of countries in the past years and the twins Ylva and Linda Persson, who supported Pastora Soler in 2012 singing her song will be competing in the process.

Stay tuned to ESC-Plus.com for the latest information about Maltese contenders for Copenhagen, on the 29th of November, each one of the 20 finalists will be singing a snippet of its song on Xarabank, live on TVM. The final round of the whole national selection will be broadcasted from the Malta Fairs & Conventions Centre in Ta’ Qali, on the 8th of February 2014.
