This year’s Maltese national final entails no less than 40 acts, and today a preview of all the songs has been released.

Prominent names

Among the hopefuls of the 2023 Maltese national final, there are a couple of prominent names, these are the following:

  • Fabrizio Faniello: Competed for Malta in the contests of 2001 and 2006.
  • Francesca Scibberas: Represented Malta in Junior Eurovision in 2009.
  • Eliana Gomez Blanco: Representative of Malta in the 2019 Junior Eurovision Song Contest.

The Maltese national final

The Maltese national final will take place on February 11th 2023, and this time around Quarterfinals make their return to this national final. In each of the four Quarterfinals 10 songs will compete of which 6 progress to the Semi-final. In the Semi-finals 24 songs will compete of which 16 make it to the Grand Final. The results will be based on a professional jury and televoting.

There was a draw when it comes down to which act opens the first Quarterfinal and which one will close the fourth Quarterfinal; in this regard the draw resulted in the following:

  • Hailey will open the first Quarterfinal with the song “Tik Tok”.
  • Maria Cristina will close the fourth Quarterfinal with the song “Our Flame”.

Dates of the Maltese shows

The dates of the Maltese shows are the following:

  • Quarterfinal One – January 13th 2023
  • Quarterfinal Two – January 20th 2023
  • Quarterfinal Three – January 27th 2023
  • Quarterfinal Four – February 3rd 2023
  • Semi-Final – February 9th 2023
  • Grand Final – February 11th 2023

Eurovision 2022

In the contest of 2022 in Turin (Italy) Emma Muscat with the song “I Am What I Am” waved the Maltese flag. Emma ended in 16th place in Semi-final 2, so Malta did not progress to the Grand Final of the 2022 contest.
