Today (14-11-2023) it became known that Lithuanian band The Roop might return to the contest in 2024 to compete in Malmö (Sweden).
The Roop might return?
Lithuanian band The Roop might return to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2024 according to a social media post of the band earlier today. The band has submitted a song to the national broadcaster of Lithuania to compete in “Eurovizija.LT”, which is the new version of the Lithuanian national selection.
The Roop in Eurovision
The Roop was supposed to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) with the song “On Fire”, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic this contest was cancelled. In 2020 The Roop was one of the hot favourites to win the contest. This year The Roop won the Lithuanian national selection, which by then had the name, “Pabandom iš naujo”.
In 2021 The Roop competed again, now with the song “Discotheque”; they made it again to the Eurovision stage, once again in Rotterdam (the Netherlands). In 2021 The Roop was the first act to perform in Semi-final 1, in which they came in 4th place (of 16), and eventually they ended in 8th place (of 26) in the 2021 Grand Final.
The song of The Roop for the 2024 selection is unknown for now, but will be made public in January 2024, and from there we will wait and see whether they will make it to Eurovision 2024.
The process of Eurovizija.LT
The new name of the Lithuanian national final is “Eurovizija.LT”, and in these televised shows the next Lithuanian representative will be chosen. The application window for artists and songs is open until December 11th 2023. 20 Artists will be chosen to compete in 4-5 semi-finals, and eventually a national grand final with a yet to be chosen voting system.
More details about Eurovizija.LT will be released soon.
