Riga calling! He is the Latvian heartthrob who represented the Baltic country in Eurovision 2016, and she is the statuesque model-turned-TV host who participated in Latvian version of Dancing with the Stars. Imagine what could happen if these two meet, a Supernova!
That’s right! Justs Sirmais and Dagmara Legante have been appointed to host this year’s Latvian national selection for Eurovision. We’ll get to see this explosive duo for the first time during the show’s first semifinal on February 3rd.
Latvian Television (LTV) also confirmed that the show can be accessed through live stream on Supernova official website. Music expert Toms Grevins, joined by comedian Edgar Balins are set to host the live broadcast, facilitating those “couch potatoes” at home to share their point of view.
Ilze Jansone, Supernova’s producer, explains that the quality of the songs submitted has significantly improved this year. “It is true that in terms of number, we received less submissions than the previous three seasons. However, in terms of quality, it’s the best one yet”.
It seems like Supernova team has learned valuable lesson from experience, “Our struggle from previous years suggests that accepting artist and author’s applications separately with the aim of finding a new pair is not justifiable. Therefore, we change the rule. We only accept a ready team (a complete package of singer and author) this year. The changes in entry requirements require more serious investment and work preparation”.
The revolution does not stop there. The number of juries who evaluate the submission is also bigger this season. This is also followed by the change in the voting system where viewers can only vote by SMS or call once. Previously, there was no limit to the number of votes that could be cast in this way. Jansone also confirms that the number of Spotify streams will also count towards the results of this year’s show. Last but not least, the jury will have their say as well.
