Israel: Will Israel compete in this year’s contest?

At the beginning of this week the Israeli delegation posted a message online in which they state that their delegation will not travel to Turin to be present live during this year’s contest due to a strike of the Israeli security that guarantees the safety of the delegation. Next to this, there were also statements that they might compete in a different kind of way.

What is the plan?

At the moment the delegation is looking into alternative ways to guarantee the security of the Israeli delegation to be present in Turin. Following the statement of the Israeli Eurovision Song Contest delegation governed by the IPBC (Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation), the GSS (General Security Services) is looking into other options to guarantee the safety of the Israeli delegation. Both the IPBC and GSS are meeting each other to come up with solid solutions.

Live-on-tape

Another option, in case the delegation cannot be represented live, is the admission of a live-on-tape performance by the Israeli delegation. Live-on-tape performances are “live”, but pre-recorded in a studio where at least one member of the EBU is present to see whether all the requirements of a live-on-tape performance are being met.
