Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Moldova

Doiniţa Gherman: “I didn’t want to take part at the contest this year, but my composers inspired me to do it” (Moldovan semifinalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Doiniţa Gherman, semifinalist of the Moldovan national selection for Eurovision 2016. After being selected to compete in the live shows, the singer will perform the song “Irresistible” composed by Ylva and Linda Persson.

Check what she told us below:

ESC+Plus: Hello Doiniţa! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Moldovan national selection for Eurovision 2016!

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

I have been singing since I was a child, but I could say my career started 14 years ago, when I met my actual producer. Since then, I breath and live with music, I write music and lyrics for me and for other young and renowned artists from our country. I elaborate scripts and staging for different public and private events, and I also present different events and TV shows.

The most important for me is the fact that I live and can do what I love – to sing for my soul and for my dear people, how I am used to call my spectators.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “O Melodie Pentru Europa 2016”?

It’s my 8th participation in the national selection for Eurovision and every year I am very happy and excited about it, but initially I didn’t want to take part in the Contest this year. Ylva and Linda Persson , the composers of my song, inspired me to do it! Their enthusiasm, love, dedication, their way of thinking and work motivated me to accept the challenge…and I am sure it was a good decision!

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semifinal? What it would mean for you to represent Moldova?

Sorry for my “modesty”, but I knew that we’d be qualified and I think we deserve this success!

Representing Moldova would be something wonderful, a big responsibility, but at the same time an enormous pleasure! I know that I can do this! First of all, I want to give the best I have on stage and hope that it will reflect the work of all our team. I want my team to be proud of me and the public to get a great show.

E+: Can you tell us about your song “Irresistible”? What is the story behind the lyrics?

I reckon it would be better if you ask the composers about the song story, I can only say that I retrieved myself in this song: music, lyrics , style ….I am thankful to girls for this song! It’s a beautiful gift! It’s a big honour for me to sing this gorgeous creation! I know how much love and soul is put into a song to see the sunlight.

Ylva & Linda (composers): The story of Irresistible is about living your life to the fullest, make your own choices, reach your dreams and goals despite some setbacks which are only part of life. It’s also about creating the kind of life that you want to see for yourself and to live in each moment.

E+: The composers your song are the Swedish sisters Ylva and Linda Persson, who have already composed many songs for Eurovision national selections. How has the experience working along with them?

Ylva and Linda Persson are very talented, hard-working and creative. I’ve known their creation for a long time and I’m very happy because 5 of their songs were qualified for the Eurovision semifinals in different countries.

Working with Linda and Ylva was an interesting and creative process. I am grateful to them and their team for that; they trusted me and my team. We have also been involved in the fruition of the song and have got a musical composition which we are all proud of.

E+: You have already participated in the Moldovan selection a few times. How do you remember these previous attempts? Will you face this new one in a different way?

Well, it is my 8th time taking part in this contest ;) You can understand the music is for me more than a hobby, it is my whole existence and each participation was a great and important experience for me. I can say I grew up with
Eurovision and my public too. Each of my appearances on the Eurovision stage was much worth for me, because it was a wonderful possibility to meet my spectators.

I don’t know if it will be different this year…the song is different , absolutely, but we want to be better and …maybe …who knows …the best! ;)

E+: How are you preparing your performance for “O Melodie Pentru Europa 2016”?

We are in a phase of analysis at the moment, the girls are helping us with their own ideas and it’s great! We have the possibility to work with good professionals of the artistic field and we hope to do a good work together!

First of all, me and the whole team (Moldovan and Swedish ) wish to succeed in creating a beautiful fairy tale for the public during those 3 minutes we’ve got to perform on stage, deserving of the Eurovision Song Contest.

E+: What is your opinion about the past Moldovan representatives in Eurovision? Do you have any favourites?

All of them are my colleagues , including artists of great value whose music has inspired me since my childhood, when I started my career. Of course , I respect all them because I know very well what this work means and, although I haven’t won the Moldovan selection yet, I always support our representatives. Failure times as well as the victory pass fast, what remains after it is more important!

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

I’m involved in several different artistic projects – „The power of the dance“ , I’ll start this month a new TV show
… etc. In fact, it is very simple, all I want and need for my soul is to sing for people and to be close to them in other artistic ways. I create for them and I give them all my love!!!

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

It is great to see how Eurovision unites the entire world, it makes us closer each other, people from so many different countries create a wonderful friendship. I wish you all to fully enjoy these positive feelings and emotions!

I also want to say thank you very much! Best of luck to all participants! Best of luck Eurovision!

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!
