Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2016

Corazon: “I love MESC and being part of it is such a joy!” (Maltese semifinalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Corazon, semifinalist of the Maltese national selection for Eurovision 2016. After being selected to compete in the semi-final, the singer will perform the song “Falling Glass”.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you so much for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Maltese national selection for Eurovision 2016!

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

My most notable achievement so far has been my best-selling debut album of my original songs in Maltese entitled ‘Hawn Jien’. A few weeks ago I have also performed alongside Italian singer/songwriter Amedeo Minghi and that has been quite a highlight in my career. Of course, all my MESC participations so far were very important for me, and also winning local festival ‘L-Għanja tal-Poplu’ three times was quite a feat, especially since all the songs were my own compositions.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2016”?

I just love the game and being part of it is such a joy!

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the semi-final? Did you expect it?

Not at all – I was obviously very excited and feeling a little bit ill on the day. But it wasn’t really illness after all as all the symptoms faded away as soon as my song was called… just those damn butterflies!

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Malta?

Honestly, it would mean the world to me!

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

My song ‘Falling Glass’ is s deceptive ‘ballad’ since it surprises the audience and turns into a dance track after the first minute. The lyrics speak about a relationship that is about to shatter just like falling glass when it hits the ground. It’s about that split second just before glass breaks, that moment when you can save yourself from breaking.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are your strengths to reach the top in the competition?

A strong song is a must – and I believe Falling Glass has what it takes. Personality is also a very important factor.

E+: How are you preparing your performance for “MESC 2016”? Can you reveal us anything about the staging?

Yes of course, the dress is almost ready and its all sparkly and beautiful in true Eurovision style. But the movement on stage will be very interesting to watch too…

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favourite songs of the history of the competition?

I’ve always been a big fan. My favourite song was ‘Let Me Fly’ by Debbie Scerri.

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing with, who would it be?

It would probably be Ludwig, Kurt Calleja or Gianluca – they are good friends too!

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

I am very eager to finish off writing my next album and work on its release.

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

I would just like to thank them for supporting Malta and Falling Glass! But I also want to send out a message of tolerance in embracing our differences to all the readers out there – and this in true Eurovision spirit of unity!

E+: Thank for your time and good luck!
