Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2015 Hungary

Barbara Péter: “Singing and music was always an important part of my life” (Hungarian participant – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Barbara Péter, participant of the Hungarian national selection for Eurovision 2015 “A Dal”. Barbara will sing “Listen to the Universe” in the third heat set on February 7.

ESC+Plus: Hello Barbara! Firstly, we would like to know more about you. Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

Singing and music was always an important part of my life. 10 years ago I moved to Budapest and I have been singing as a background singer with several famous musicians, like Zorán, Dés László, Zséda, Hooligans. This gave me the chance to gain valuable experience on stage. By the way I studied law and when I have spare time I work as a lawyer.

E+: Why did you decide to enter “A Dal” 2015?

This song found me this year, and it was no question, that we take it to the competition. And it was time to being in front line after many years.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Hungary in Vienna?

Represent Hungary has a special meaning:  I’m not only a person who is going to sing the winning song of Hungary. This contest is also a meeting of countries. I think, that Hungary is a very-very great place to live, and I would feel honored to be the person, showing the world how great place is my country.

E+: Your song is called “Listen to the Universe”. Can you tell us about the song and the story behind the lyrics?

The story of this song is very special, because the composer has already written it, but he never used it. We worked on another song, which we wanted to take to the competition, but as the due date got closer, Zoltán decided to merge the two, by using the beauty of both, and that’s how the song was born. I really love the message of the song.  I think, listening to the song, everybody can get the answer they are searching for, if they don’t know which direction to choose in their life.

E+: Zoltán Tóth and Péter Halász are the composers of “Listen to the Universe”. How was the collaboration will them?

I really loved the work, it was good to see, how we can reach achievements step by step together.

E+: How are you preparing your stage performance? Can you reveal us anything about it?

The big task for us is how to communicate the meaning of the song through the stage view, the screening in the background, and the clothes. And of course I sing the song all the time 🙂

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the support of juries and televote to reach Eurovision?

My stage view, with the screening in the background, our clothes, and the lyrics of the song represent a special unit. That makes the difference – I think – compared to the other productions.

E+: If you win the Hungarian competition, would you sing in Hungarian or in English at Eurovision? Would you make a new version?

I believe in this song. It is perfect now. 🙂

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favorite song in the contest?

I follow the happenings every year. I have been involved in the national auditions as a background vocalist for years so I rather experienced it from a professional side. My special favourite is the song of my friend, Kedvesem (from Byealex 2013).

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your other plans for this year?

Right now this is the only project I work on, because I really believe that focus is important.  After the competition I will either have a brand new life, but not, than I would live my other dreams, which I have.

E+: Finally, would you like to send a message for our readers?

Yes, I have a simple thought. If people get to the point in their lives, where they don’t know which way to go, or which direction to choose, I simply suggest them to Listen to the Universe 🙂
