The news to date on the Icelandic national selection process for Tel Aviv has been relatively quiet. However, we have received confirmation from the Söngvakeppnin Facebook page that a photo shoot has already taken place with the artists selected from the 132 entries received. Furthermore, a press conference to officially announce the contestants has been scheduled for 7:45 local time on January 26th.
It is expected that as in previous years Icelandic versions of the tracks will be made available in addition to English versions if the artists chose to perform in English should they advance to the final. It will be interesting to see how the national final develops after disappointing results in recent years and even rumours of a boycott of Eurovision in Israel shortly after last year’s contest in Lisbon. Ari Ólafsson finished last in semi-final 1 with his entry ‘Our Choice’.
Iceland was last represented in the grand final at Eurovision way back in 2014 when the band, Pollapönk represented the country in Copenhagen.
