Germany: Tonight 6 acts compete in Germany’s national final, “Germany 12 Points”!

The voting has been going on since last Monday (28-02-2022) through the websites of several German radio stations, and tonight a live TV competition will determine who is going to the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 for Germany.

You can watch Germany 12 Points live on the “ESCplus Live: Multi-window”, by clicking here. The show starts at 09:00 PM CET.

The format

Since last Monday 05:00 CET German radio audiences could vote for their favorite artist to represent Germany during this year’s contest in Turin, Italy. Tonight, during a live TV show, with the name “Germany 12 Points”, the German representative of this year will be chosen. The public vote deriving from the radio listeners will count for 50% of the total result, and the other 50% will derive from the public that watches the TV show. Voting will be possible up to one minute before the actual broadcast of the TV show starts, so until 08:59 PM CET.

The 6 competing artists

There are 6 acts that compete in Germany’s national final. The acts were selected by a special assembly of 7 judges who are all connoisseurs of the music business. The actual choice of the representative of Germany will be done by the public.

Below you can find the 6 artists and the official music videos of their songs.

Malik Harris – Rockstars

Maël & Jonas – I swear to god

Eros Atomus – Alive

Emily Roberts – Soap

Felicia Lu – Anxiety

Nico Suave & Team Liebe – Hallo Welt

Guest performances

This year’s German national final will also have several special Eurovision guests who will perform tonight; these artists are:

  • Conchita Wurst (winner of the contest in 2014)
  • Jane Comerford (lead singer of the group “Texas Lightning”, Germany 2006)
  • Thomas Hermanns (the spokesperson of Germany, 2005-2008)
  • Bülent Ceylan (comedian)
  • Jamala (winner of the contest of 2016)

Special performance

The most special guest performance of the night is probably going to be of Ukrainian singer Jamala, who won the Eurovision Song Contest of 2016 with her song “1944”, a song about the deportation of the Crimean Tatars back in the days of Stalin. The song opens with the words: When strangers are coming. They come to your house. They kill you all, and say: “We’re not guilty”. Sentences that are eerily current right now, because of the war Russia unleashed on Ukraine. Jamala fled to Turkey earlier this week, because of the war situation Ukraine finds itself in at the moment.

Eurovision Song Contest 2022

This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 10th (Semi-final 1), 12th (Semi-final 2), and on the 14th (Grand Final) in Turin, Italy. Because Germany is part of the Big 5 the country immediately proceeds to the final on May 14th 2022.
