Germany: NDR reveals national final date and place

NDR has revealed the date and place of the German national final for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. ‘Unser Lied für Lissabon’ will be held live on 22 February in Berlin.

In 2018, NDR will try a brand new formula through which they hope to improve their recent disappointing results achieved in the European music competition. The next year’s German representative will be chosen by a more international atmosphere featuring a Europe-Panel, an international expert panel, and the German audience.

The members of the Europe-Panel, which is made up of German people, will represent the taste of the European audience that watches Eurovision every year in the best way possible. They gathered last month to listen to the candidate entries and selected 20 participants.

The selected 20 contenders are currently taking part in workshops with music experts, vocal coaches, and choreographers trying different songs of a wide range of styles. Then they will record introduction videos that will show their potential as singer, person, and performer. The Europe-Panel and an international expert committee, which will be made up of 20-25 members, will select the five finalists that will compete in the live show based on these videos.

Following the selection of finalists, the German broadcaster will work with composers, producers, and record labels from different genres to select an individual song for each finalist, so the five finalists will compete at the live show performing original songs written specifically for them.

The German representative will be selected during a three-hour show called ‘Unser Lied für Lissabon’ which will take place on 22 February in Berlin.
