Germany 2024: Eight of the nine German national final acts revealed!

NDR, the German national broadcaster, has revealed eight of the nine acts that will compete in the German national final, “Das Deutsche Finale 2024”. The winner of this national selection will take the stage for Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden). In total NRD’s selection committee received 693 submissions.

Are there any former Eurovision stars in this year’s German line-up?

Yes, there is one former Eurovision star in this year’s line-up of the German national final; that name is Max Mutzke, who competed for Germany in the contest of 2004 in Istanbul (Turkey). He ended in 8th position (of 24) in the Grand Final with the song “Can’t Wait Until Tonight”.

How does the eight act of the German national final get chosen?

On February 8th 2024 the ninth act will be announced; this act will be chosen by the public in the sixth, and final episode, of the series “Ich will zum ESC!”. The show is about 15 new artists  that are coached by professionals in the music business when it comes down to their Eurovision entries, among them Austrian Eurovision 2014 winner, Conchita Wurst.

When will the German national final be broadcast?

The German national final, “Eurovision Song Contest – Das Deutsche Finale 2024” will be broadcast live on February 16th 2024 from the capital of Germany, Berlin. The broadcast can be watched on Das Erste, Eurovision.de, and ARD Mediathek. The winner will be chosen by 50% international juries and 50% public vote.

Who competed for Germany in Eurovision 2023?

In Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool (United Kingdom) the band Lord of the Lost competed for Germany with the song “Blood & Glitter”. The band ended in last place (26th of 26). In the past 10 years, which entailed 9 contests (one was cancelled due to the global pandemic), Germany ended last no less than 4 times.
