The full list of singers that will participate in the Uuden Musiikin Kilpailu 2021 has been leaked on social media. Seven candidates will compete at the Finnish show for Eurovision!
The Finnish television has, again, decided to use the UMK to choose their entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, so the winner will take the white and blue flag to Rotterdam next May. Aksel Kankaanranta won last year and was selected to represent Finland in Eurovision 2020 but the contest was cancelled because of the pandemic. Anyway, he will try to win again!
The list is made of seven artist, individually or with groups. This edition has more debutants that singers who already participated, so we may have a new winner this year.
- Beginning from the A, we have Aksel Kankaanranta. This young guy from Turku won UMK 2020 just one year ago and went on to represent Finland in Eurovision 2020. He will try to repeat his victory at the show and eventually reach the big stage in Rotterdam.
- Blind Channel arrives at the UMK from Oulu to bring their own mixed rap-rock-pop style. It is not their first competition, since they have already participated in the Finnish national selection for the well known Wacken Festival.
- Between these youngsters, a well-known man from the Finnish Eurovision world. Danny returns to the UMK after having participated in several preselections back in the 60s, 70s and 80s. He is the partner of Erika Vikman, last year’s UMK participant.
- German-Finnish young lady Ilta is one of the youngest participants as she’s only 22. The singer has been working the last few months in their debut album in Finnish, so it’s for sure a huge opportunity for her to get some attention in Finland and, maybe, Europe.
- Another familiar face for the fandom is Laura Põldvere, who has already participated in Eurovision twice, in 2005 and 2017, representing Estonia as part of the group Suntribe and alongside Koit Toome, respectively. Now, she participates on her own for the first time looking for her third Eurovision.
- Oskr arrives at the UMK with his perfect combination of electronic and classic sounds. With a great voice and huge mixes, he will get to the stage trying to impress everyone.
- One of the most interesting features of this edition is Teflon Brothers x Pandora. The hip hop group will join veteran Pandora in what can be explosive participation combining their Eurodance and pop styles.
The UMK final will take place next January 20th. Finland is looking for their second win after Lordi’s in 2006 with Hard Rock Hallejullah. After it, their best result was the 11th place in 2014.
