Eurovision 2024: The betting odds have changed since last weekend

Last week, because of the first Eurovision 2024 pre-party, the betting odds of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö (Sweden)  have changed. The reason for this are the live performances during the PrePartyES 2024 in the capital of Spain, Madrid.

The change can be seen in the winner poll of Eurovisionworld.com. The betting odds on this website indicate the percentage in which a certain country has a chance to win this year’s contest (it does not indicate in which position a country will end in the eventual ranking).

The betting odds before last weekend

Below you can find the ranking of the percentages before last weekend’s first pre-party of the contest of 2024.

  1. Croatia: Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim
  2. Ukraine: Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil – Maria & Theresa
  3. Switzerland: Nemo – The Code
  4. Italy: Angelina Mango – La noia
  5. Netherlands: Joost Klein – Europapa

This would mean that in percentages Croatia’s Baby Lasagna would have the biggest chance to win the 2024 contest, based on numbers before the first pre-party.

The betting odds since last weekend

The ranking of the percentages since last weekend can be found below. The percentages indicate how much chance a country has to win this year’s contest.

  1. Switzerland: Nemo – The Code (19%)
  2. Croatia: Baby Lasagna – Rim Tim Tagi Dim (16%)
  3. Italy: Angelina Mango – La noia (13%)
  4. Netherlands: Joost Klein – Europapa (10%)
  5. Ukraine: Alyona Alyona & Jerry Heil – Maria & Theresa

“Possible “reasons for the change of the ranking

Below you can find several “possible” reasons for the change of the ranking in the numbers as indicated by Eurovisionworld.com.

Last week Switzerland’s Nemo had two live performances of his song, “The Code”, posted online, one of a performance in a Swiss TV show and another during the first pre-party of the season in Madrid (Spain). Nemo’s song seems a very hard one to sing, and he pulled it off on both occasions, because of this his chances of winning increased, thus he moved up to first place.

Croatia’s pre-party version of “Rim Tim Tagi Dim”, was fun, but might be less difficult than Nemo’s, so Croatia was surpassed by Nemo. Croatia’s song is one of the best that was chosen during national final season, so Baby Lasagna was on top for a long time in the polls.

Italy moved on to third place, because people see Angelina Mango now on websites and social media, but outside of an Italian (Sanremo Festival) setting, where she is holding up really well, also when it comes down to her knowledge of the English language, people are drawn to this.

Ukraine’s Alyona Alyona and Jerry Heil were on top or second place in the ranking before the pre-party season started, because of their amazing song, “Maria & Theresa”,  but also because of Europe and beyond’s sympathy concerning still war-stricken Ukraine. They did really well outside of the pre-party season, they might be a little less popular now, but they will soar again once they get more exposure on (Eurovision) websites and social media.

The Netherlands has been hyped since the day that we know that Joost Klein is going to represent this country. Joost was already popular in German- and Dutch-speaking countries, like: Germany, Switzerland, and Austria. The Netherlands moved up one place because there have been shifts in the top 5, but also because more and more people start to understand the absolute ‘90’s feel and moral of Joost’s song, “Europapa”. Joost klein was not present during the PrePartyES 2024.
