Eurovision 2024: Revamps a-go-go!

Every year there are many countries that revamp their entry for Eurovision ahead of the contest, which means that they spice up their entry for the Eurovision stage. This also means that the national final version might not be the same as the one that will be performed on the grand Eurovision stage. This year’s contest is no exception, because a great many countries have chosen to come up with another version of their Eurovision entry for Malmö 2024, like: Albania, Malta, and Czechia.

Let’s check this year’s revamps out below!

Albania

Albania sends Besa this year with a power-ballad that was previously known as “Zemren N’dorë” (trans. “Heart in Hand”), which meant that the song was in the Albanian language; the revamped version of Besa’s entry will be in English, and is called “Titan”. The version that Besa sang during the Albanian national final was more like we are used to from Albania in other editions of Eurovision. The arrangement of the song is more international now, and has an upbeat part at the end; now the song can compete more with contemporary music. Next to this, Besa shortened her name by leaving her last name out, so from Besa Kokëdhima, it became just Besa.

Norway

This year Gåte took the crown in the Norwegian national final with the song “Ulveham”. After being a huge favourite in the second semi-final of the national final of Norway this band was asked to change the lyrics, since the song and its lyrics were based on an ancient Norwegian folk song, so Gåte did. Eurovision’s rules and regulations demand that a song has original lyrics and not derive from existing ones, so changes had to be made. Gåte managed to change up the lyrics before they competed in the national grand final, and the rest is history…

Malta

Malta’s 2024 representative, Sarah Bonnici, also released a revamp of her entry “Loop”. The new version of Sarah’s song seems to have more depth to it than the Maltese national final version, it went from jazzy pop-song with Latin elements to more full-on pop song, and because of this the song is more danceable now. We are sure that Sarah is going to dance and sing during her performance in Malmö, and her entry is probably adapted to this.

Czechia

In this year’s contest Czechia will be represented by Aiko with the pop-rock song “Pedestal”. This song will also be revamped for the Eurovision stage, and will probably get more of a strong pop hook to it to appeal more to international audiences. The new version of Aiko’s song will be released on March 21st 2024, so stay tuned, because we will post the Czechian revamp here as soon as it is available.

Italy

Angelina Mango won the ticket to represent Italy in the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 with the song “La noia”. The revamp is mostly a practical one, because when Angelina won the 2024 Sanremo Festival, her song was too long for Eurovision. The European Broadcasting Union states in its rules and regulations that a song that is performed in the contest can be no longer than 3 minutes, and Angelina’s song was originally 3 minutes and 7 seconds. This might mean that the lyrics of the song have changed to fit the running time. When the new version of Angelina Mango’s song, “La noia”, will be released is unknown, but we will add the video once it is released.

Luxembourg

Luxembourg is back in the game after an hiatus of almost 30 years, and Tali’s entry, “Fighter”, is hopefully one of many Luxembourgian entries to come. Tali announced on her social media that her winning Luxembourg Song Contest 2024 song will get a revamp. The song will probably get more pizzazz and might even feature a dance break as Tali’s song is ideal to dance to.
