Eurovision 2024: Is the Swedish city of Sandviken going for a bid?

A member of the Sandviken city council has come up with a proposal to the council executive board of the city in which this member asks to review the idea to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Sandviken.

The city of Sandviken

The member of the city council does admit that it would bring challenges to host the next contest in Sandviken, but that it is worth to look into the matter, because the region and city of Sandviken can use a boost and recognition.

Sandviken has approx. 40,000 people living in, and the city is situated in Gävleborg County.

The Göransson Arena

If the contest would be hosted by the city of Sandviken the arena where the event will take place will be the Göransson Arena, which has hosted one of the Semi-finals of Melodifestivalen before, Sweden’s very popular national final. The Göransson Arena has space for no less than 10,000 spectators.

EUROVISION 2023

This year’s contest is won by Sweden’s Loreen with the song “Tattoo”. Loreen’s win marks the first time a female singer has won the Eurovision Song Contest twice, since Loreen also won the 2012 song contest with the song “Euphoria”, which is one of the most successful songs in Eurovision history. Next to this, Loreen is the second singer to win the contest twice; Irish Johnny Logan came before her.
