King Charles III and Queen Camilla I will visit this year’s Eurovision Song Contest venue, the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, United Kingdom, on April 26th 2023.
Royal Eurovision visit
The 67th Eurovision Song Contest, which will be hosted in Liverpool (UK), is the first contest that is being organized in the UK in 25 years, and this calls for a royal Eurovision visit. On April 26th 2023 King Charles and Queen Camilla will visit the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool to see the progress in venue. They will also meet this year’s British contender, Mae Muller.
Further tour through Liverpool
After visiting the Eurovision proceedings the British royals will visit other sites in Liverpool, like: The Liverpool Central Library, to mark the library’s twinning with the Regional Scientific Library in Odesa, Ukraine. In the library they will meet people who are involved in the cultural festival during Eurovision and Eurolearn, which is a learning initiative for primary and secondary school student in the Liverpool area.
Eurovision and royal visits
King Charles and Queen Camilla are not the first royals to pay a visit to a Eurovision venue, there were many before them, like:
- Norway 2010: Crown Princess Mette-Marit and Marius Borg Høiby attended the contest.
- Denmark 2014: Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended the Grand Final.
- The Netherlands 2021: King Willem Alexander and Queen Máxima attended the proceedings of the contest.
Eurovision 2023
The Eurovision Song Contest 2023 will take place on May 9th, 11th, and 13th 2023 in Liverpool, United Kingdom. 37 countries will compete for the crown. This year’s Eurovision Song Contest will be a joint venture, since last year’s winner Ukraine cannot organize the contest on home soil because of the ongoing war with Russia.
