Eurovision 2021: Live audience welcome during Eurovision Song Contest 2021

The nine shows of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 will have a live audience! The event was named a “Fieldlab Event” in April of 2021, and this also meant that an audience of 3,500 spectators could be present per show, and in this regard the Dutch government has decided to proceed with the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with a live audience.

Fieldlab Events

A couple of weeks ago it was decided that the Fieldlab Events of the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 could only take place when there would be no more than 900 ICU beds occupied in Dutch hospitals.

All 2020 shows were sold-out

All 2020 shows were sold-out, and because of the eventual cancellation all people who had tickets got their money refunded. They did get the message though that in case there would be a chance that the contest would have a live audience again in 2021 they would be the first ones to get contacted. The tickets sales of the 2021 contest were postponed until the decision of the Dutch government, and today it was decided that there will be an audience again, may it be only 20% of this year’s host venue, Ahoy Rotterdam.

Different scenarios

The organization of this year’s Song Contest has taken into account all sorts of different scenarios, and in none of them there will be a live audience present in front of the stage. On the floor, where normally a live audience would be cheering, the organization stationed the green room, and only on the grandstands a live audience can take place with social distancing and multiple other types of restrictions.

Cancellation of live audience is still an option

When the situation in the Netherlands’ healthcare decreases the Dutch government can still cancel the Fieldlab Events. A Eurovision Song Contest 2021 without an audience is still a valid scenario.

How to get tickets?

All available tickets for 2021’s nine shows will be sold solely to people who had tickets for the Song Contest of 2020. The ticket sale will start on the 8th of May 2021 at 12:00 (noon). The people who already had tickets for the 2020 edition will receive an e-mail on the 5th of May 2021 to remind them to get tickets for 2021’s shows.
