about chanel

Chanel was born on the 2nd of January 2011 and lives in Mosta. It was at an early age that she showed interest in and passion for singing. Her first singing and music theory lesson was 3 years ago but she always showed interest in learning the piano, so she added piano lessons last year.

She started participating in various local competitions where she was always praised and encouraged to keep on nourishing her talent. Last December she was awarded as the ‘Best Singer of The Year’ in a local competion.

In 2018 she participated in her first-ever international competition held in Lithuania (Music Talent League) achieving the 1st place in her age group. Last summer she also had the opportunity to participate in ‘Talent World Contest’ (Italy) and in ‘Riga Symphony’ (Latvia) last December, placing 1st in both competitions with only a few marks away from winning the Grand Prix award.

Malta chose its 2020 entry following the last year’s selection process. This time, however, candidates were able to send an original song. From all the submissions received, PBS shortlisted the following songs for the final:

The winner was decided by the combination of votes of a 3-person jury panel, made up of Eliana Gomez Blanco (JESC 2019), Michela Pace (Eurovision 2019) and Dominic Cini (singer and composer), and the public via SMS.

The top 3 of songs was as it follows:

  1. Chanel Monseigneur – Chasing Sunsets
  2. Leah Mifsud – Anywhere
  3. Mychael Bartolo Chircop – The Child From Inside
