Azerbaijan 2023: More than 200 songs submitted

Today it became known, through an interview with the Azerbaijani head of Delegation, Vasif Mammadov, that more than 200 songs were submitted to become Azerbaijan’s entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 2023.

More than 200 songs

More than 200 songs were submitted to the Azerbaijani national broadcaster, Ictimai, to represent the country in the Eurovision Song Contest of 2023 in Liverpool, United Kingdom. Most of the songs came from songwriters and musicians from outside Azerbaijan. Vasif Mammadov said that this year around Azerbaijan is opting to choose an Azerbaijani composer.

Internal selection

This year’s Azerbaijani representative will be chosen internally. Vasif Mammadov stated that he expects the decision-making process to be over in January of 2023.

Eurovision 2022

In the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 Azerbaijan was represented by Nadir Rustamli with the song “Fade to Black”. Nadir Rustamli was the first entrant ever to progress to the Grand Final with 0 points from the viewers, and subsequently only points from the professional juries. In the Grand Final he finished 16th (of 25).
