Alfred & Amaia to sing for Spain at Eurovision 2018!

They conquered the hearts of the Spanish audience… will it happen the same in May?

The Spanish national final show for Eurovision 2018 has just come to an end and fans will be happy to hear that Alfred and Amaia (Almaia) will be representing the country in May with the song “Tu Canción” (Your Song). The song was a hot favourite since the release of all 9 entries in the competition and will try to achieve major triumph in the upcoming months as well as Eurovision glory on May 12th.

Magic and emotion could be felt in the air. Stunning performances were delivered by the OT Eurovision finalists tonight, but in the end, it was just a single song that could travel to the European competition in Portugal and it was all decided by the Spanish audience at home.

In two different rounds, the televote went on to decide that the winning entry would represent Spain: the first round saw the three songs that gained most of the votes going to a further second round, where the track by Amaia & Alfred written by Raúl Gómez and Sylvia Santoro stood out as the winner out of the three in fighting for the right in the super-final.

After the second round of voting, the top three looks as follows:

The panel in the studio, although not having any impact on the final result, had positive reviews towards their performance and the song that will defend the Spanish colours in Lisbon. A panel of music and TV experts such as Salvador’s sister Luísa Sobral; Spanish Eurovision commentator Julia Varela; Eurovision.tv editor Víctor Escudero and music executive and artistic director at Universal Music Spain, Manuel Martos told the artists their views on the performances, without any impact on the final outcome.

Manel Navarro handed over the right to represent Spain at Eurovision to the winner and Conchita was also invited to sing ESC 2014 winning entry “Rise Like A Phoenix”. International Latin-music star J Balvin performed a medley of “Machika” and “Mi Gente”, and the eliminated contestants of Operación Triunfo 2017 sang a medley of the Spanish Eurovision winning songs “La, la, la” and “Vivo Cantando”.

The show was introduced by TV personality Roberto Leal, who has been in charge of conducting the weekly show since it began in October.
