The Lithuanian broadcaster LRT held the national selection Eurovizija.LT 2025 between January and February, culminating in Katarsis being chosen as the successors to Silvester Belt. After six weeks of competition, the band triumphed in the superfinal, defeating Liepa and Lion Ceccah to secure their ticket to Eurovision 2025.
Katarsis: The Post-Punk Band Captivating Lithuania
Formed in 2020, Katarsis consists of Lukas Radzevičius (vocals, guitar), Andrius Gruodis (guitar, backing vocals), Emilija Kandratavičiūtė (bass), and Eivin Laukhammer (drums). The group quickly became one of the most exciting acts in Lithuania’s music scene, blending post-punk and alternative rock with emotionally charged performances.
Their breakthrough came in 2021 with the viral hit “Vasarą galvoj minoras”, which climbed into the national top 10 in February 2022. The track achieved gold certification for surpassing 2.5 million streams on digital platforms, solidifying Katarsis as a rising force in Lithuanian music.
In May 2024, the band released their debut EP “Dausos”, featuring five tracks that merged their signature post-punk sound with Lithuanian folk influences. The record showcased a more experimental side, with darker and more immersive sonic explorations.
Katarsis are known for their ability to channel intense emotions through melancholic melodies and powerful climaxes. Tracks like “Vasarą galvoj minoras”, “Niekas”, and “Spengia Galvoje” reflect their classic post-punk inspirations, enhanced by modern production to create a hypnotic atmosphere. Their lyrics often explore themes of nostalgia, the passage of time, and personal introspection.
Their Road to Eurovision 2025
In late 2024, Katarsis were selected from 45 competing acts in Eurovizija.LT 2025. Lithuanian
Tuščios kalbos tik didina ugnį
Dega namai
Jie pradeda griūti
Iš akių į didžiausią liūtį
Visko pamatai
Jau pradėjo pūti
Tik saugot
Ją
Tavo akys mato skausmą
Mano akims tik duoda jausmą
Tavo akys mato skausmą
Mano akims tik duoda jausmą
Tavo akys mato skausmą
Mano akims tik duoda jausmą
Tavo akys mato skausmą
Mano akims tik duoda jausmą
Ah
Tu nebijok
Tavo sapnuose verkiu
Tik tavo sapnuose verkiu
Tu nebijok
Tavo sapnuose verkiu
Tik tavo sapnuose verkiu
Tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo
Tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo
Tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo
Tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo
Tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo
Tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo, tavo
English
Empty words only fuel the fire
The houses are burning, they start to collapse
From her eyes, the greatest downpour
The foundations of everything have already begun to rot
Just to protect her
Your eyes see pain
For my eyes, it only gives a feeling
Don’t be afraid, I cry in your dreams
Only in your dreams, I cry
Yours, yours, yours, yours…
Lithuania at Eurovision: A Look Back
Lithuania debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 and has participated 21 times since. Despite some ups and downs, Lithuania has qualified for the Grand Final 14 times. Their best result came in 2006 when LT United finished 6th with “We Are The Winners”.
Unlike neighboring Latvia and Estonia, Lithuania is yet to win Eurovision. The country has only finished in the top 10 three times: 6th in 2006, 9th in 2016, and 8th in 2021. Lithuania has also finished last in the Grand Final twice, including their debut with 0 points and in 2005 with 17 points in the semi-final.
In 2021, The Roop secured Lithuania’s second-best result, finishing 8th with “Discoteque”. The following year, Monika Liu represented Lithuania with “Sentimentai”, finishing 14th. In 2023, Monika Linkytė placed 11th with “Stay”, and in 2024, Silvester Belt finished 14th with “Luktelk”.
