Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Ukraine

Ukrainian national selection kicks off today!

February is the month that Eurovision season really kicks into high gear! This weekend no less than 7 countries have some sort of selection going on. Some have been running for a few weeks, some less, but at least one is just starting the Eurovision crawl for the year: Ukraine!

A hearty ‘Welcome Back’ must be issued first as the country sat out the festivities in Austria due to an ongoing crisis, but they have opted to return to the contest with the hope to do as well as they did the last time the country competed in Sweden. Zlata Ognevich placed third in Malmö with her bombastic ballad, ‘Gravity’.

The national final will be hosted by Dmytro Tankovich and Oleksandr Pedan. The competition will take place in Kiev and will consist of two semi-finals today and February 13 at 19:00 local time, followed by a final on 21 February 2016. The competition will be broadcast on both UA:Pershyi and STB.

For the first show, the national jury will include Konstantin Meladze, Ruslana, and Andriy Danylko. The scores of the judges will be combined with a national televote and three of the following will advance to the final:

Smart money would be thrown at some of the more popular acts in Semi 1, including Ukrainian crossover star, Jamala, or EMA-nominated and YUNA-winning, The Hardkiss.
