In May of this year the Netherlands got disqualified to compete in the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö (Sweden), although the country took 2nd place (of 16) in the Second Semi-final. After some rumours about the reasons behind the disqualification from various media sources, the EBU that considered the matter an act of justice, and the Netherlands being very angry, there was nothing said anymore on the matter.
The aftermath?
On August 2nd popular Dutch media outlet and TV show published that “Joost has a lot to say, but rather remains silent”, Joost also posted this on his own social media. Next to this, Joost has expressed his feelings about the Eurovision Broadcasting Union (EBU) during many different festival performances, after Eurovision 2024, in both the Netherlands and far abroad. He also mentioned returning to the contest next year, but whether this is even an option is yet to be seen, since the Netherlands is also evaluating not returning in the upcoming contest in Switzerland.
What we know so far
Joost Klein was accused of making threats toward a camera operator during rehearsals of Eurovision 2024 in Malmö (Sweden). After the incident, that took place on May 9th 2024, the case was handed over to the Swedish prosecutor. After the matter Klein was questioned, but not arrested.
Joost Klein’s lawyer, Jan-Åke Fält, denied the allegations and stated that Joost Klein will probably deemed not guilty. According to Fält, Klein allegedly only pushed the photographer’s camera away because he did not want to be filmed after his dress rehearsal performance. There was reportedly an agreement with the organizers not to film, which was violated.
They stop the case as there was not enough evidence. It was just publicly made today.
