Nine contenders competed for victory in the German national selection, organized for the first time by SWR, where a professional jury selected the three superfinalists who were then subjected to the viewers’ verdict

Germany has already chosen the winning entry for Das Deutsche Finale 2026. Sarah Engels with “Fire” received the majority support of viewers in the German national selection. In this way, she will represent Germany in the grand final of the European contest on May 16, as the country is directly qualified as a member of the Big 4.

Ultimately, Sarah Engels with “Fire” received 38.30% of the votes in the superfinal. Meanwhile, wavvyboi and Molly Sue fell just short of victory. In the earlier stage, the nine contenders of Das Deutsche Finale 2026 were evaluated by an international jury.

This year, the German national final used a two-round voting system, where the final decision rested exclusively with the viewers. Only three artists reached the superfinal, and the audience favorite earned the ticket to Vienna, Austria.

Das Deutsche Finale 2026 was hosted by Barbara Schöneberger and Hazel Brugger, the latter being one of the hosts of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The revamped German national selection has revived the Das Deutsche Finale brand under the public broadcaster Südwestrundfunk (SWR), taking charge of Germany’s participation in the European contest.
