Portugal: RTP to invite national composers, national final in March

The national broadcaster of Portugal, RTP, has announced Portugal will select its Eurovision entry using the habitual procedure, their national final Festival da Cançao. They have stated that they will invite 12 national composers (some of whom have already participated in other editions) to submit a song for the national final. It is still unknown if there will be one or two shows in this year’s Festival da Cançao, but RTP won’t delay this decision for long.

Festival da Cançao is planned to be held in early March 2015, and with its winner, Portugal expects to come back to a Eurovision final for the first time since 2010. Since then, they have been eliminated in the semi-finals three times, and have withdrew due to economical reasons once – in 2013 -. Last year, Suzy represented Portugal with Quero ser tua, coming 11th in her semi-final, just a point away from qualifying. Portugal debuted in Eurovision in 1964 and are yet to win the contest. Their best result was just a 6th place, back in 1996.
