Latvia is continuing to ride the wave of quality. Heartbeat is a compassionate plea sung by Justs. Penned by last year’s Latvian Eurovision representative Aminata. Justs is giving us “shrieking woman,” in a good way. There is a rawness to the entry that is a welcome newness in contrast to the perfection from Sergey, Amir, and Donny.
At 21 years of age, Justs sounds mature beyond his years. The electronic emptiness leaves space for his vocals to shine. The hallow feel of the track is more art than pop and I’m sure the on-stage performance has the potential to leave viewers speechless. I believe that we’ll see Latvia in the final but not the top 5.
