Eurovision 2016 Review – Belgium

Belgium is really trying to make this song “happen“. The production of “What’s the Pressure” is quality and the music video to accompany the entry is well made. Laura Tesoro is no novice performer and has been performing professionally since the age of 8…

Will this end up in the finals…?? Personally, I don’t think it should. Laura is an energetic performer but this song is simply a watered down version of “Tonight Again” and that was already a watered down version of “Uptown Funk” which was in itself derivative. Tesoro says that she is inspired by Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, and Beyonce… but her vocals would be better suited to a pop or folk styled song.

The R&B soul offering doesn’t seem natural and it all-around seems like a reach. However, I would not be surprised if the international juries gave this points. This entry has a unique quality compared to the other entries this year. Laura’s biggest competition is Finland’s Sandhja, but as I mentioned before Belgium is willing to invest in Laura. So her onstage performance will outshine Sandhja’s.

Clearly, I’m not a huge fan but I would not be surprised to see this in the final with a few points next to it in the end.

Should Laura Tesoro feel the pressure?
