This morning (03-03-2022) ESCplus was invited to be present during the global song presentation of Dutch singer S10’s Eurovision entry for Turin. The presentation was in notably one of the world’s most beautiful movie theaters, Tuschinski in the Dutch capital city of Amsterdam.
S10’s song introduction
Before the video of the song was presented in the grand movie theater, and to audiences worldwide, S10 gave a short speech, in which she put an emphasis on “daring to dream“, and that “imagination can lead to creation“. It was an emotional plea for freedom of mind; a subject that is very near to S10’s heart since she has battled and battles psychological issues, she even made a documentary about it to show youngsters that they are not alone, and that she can relate.
Then it was time to listen to the song “De Diepte” (trans. “The Deep”), and watch the music video.
After the last notes of De Diepte faded the crowd gave S10 a standing ovation, because although the song is fully in Dutch, there is a passion in it that can be felt by everyone, and a need to sing. Especially the ladder is what a mere entry differentiates from a fully developed song. S10 shows with De Diepte that there is a need to come up with a song that has a desire and a longing to win.
When S10 entered the stage again after the video was played she was in tears, because of the reaction of the crowd, a feeling of release since she does not need to keep her song hidden anymore, but also because the song is near and dear to her as a person. All these elements are recognizable in the song. There is also a line that literally goes “ooh, ooh, ah, ah” before the chorus starts, which has a very recognizable effect.
Then journalists had the time to take pictures with S10, and we were able to make a selfie with the singer, who had some nice words for us, and was really excited to see many of the reporters present back again in Turin (Italy), when the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is unleashed onto Europe and beyond, upcoming May.
