Montenegro may have taken their time to confirm their participation for Kyiv 2017, however more exciting news has been revealed today about their upcoming participation in Ukraine.
Head of delegation, Sabrija Vulic, has confirmed to us at ESC+Plus, that the broadcaster, RTCG, have started the search for songs from Montenegrin artists. The search will last for 30 days, with the deadline being November 17th. Both finished and demo versions of songs will be considered by the broadcaster.
It is still however, unsure whether or not they will use the song selection in a national final, or internally select like they have done so for the past 8 years. The last time they held a national final, was in 2008 where they selected Stefan Filipović where he performed song “Za Nju”, however the song that eventually went to Belgrade was “Zauvijek volim te” which failed to qualify in neighbouring country, Serbia, finishing 14th in Semi Final 1 with 23 points.
We at ESC+Plus love a good national final, and it would really be great to see another national final to add to the season, and especially from a country like Montenegro which we haven’t seen one in some time.
Back in July 2016, one of the earliest rumours came from Montenegrin artist, Milena Vučić who stated in the press in Montenegro that she would be open to representing her country on the Eurovision stage:
“Everyone knows me as excellent, energetic performer who always gives maximum. I really want to get a chance to proudly represent my country and justify the trust of an audience point of me support… certainly I have a vision of how my performance at Eurovision would look. I’m ready to break new ground by powerful and fast songs in English, as well as the demanding choreography”.
Here’s to hoping that Milena will still be up for representing her country, even if just in a national final, we certainly love her Balkan sound here at HQ.
