Supernova 2018 reached its tantalising climax tonight as Latvia decided to send Laura Rizzotto, with the song ‘Funny Girl’, to Portugal for the Eurovision Song Contest in May.
Eight candidates performed in the Final of Supernova 2018:

- Ritvars – Who’s counting?
- MADARA – Esamiba
- Liene Greifane – Walk the talk
- Lauris Valters – Lovers bliss
- Edgars Kreilis – Younger days
- Laura Rizzotto – Funny girl
- Markus Riva – This time
The verdict was based on a 50/50 combination of public votes and marks awarded by a jury of music professionals.
Latvia will, of course, be hoping that their 2018 choice avoids the fate of Triana Park, who finished bottom of their Semi-Final in Kiev last year. The country will be performing in the second half of the Second ESC 2018 Semi-Final on 10th May and, if Latvia’s luck turns, they’ll then be in the mix at the Grand Final in Lisbon’s Altice Arena just two days later.
So that’s it for Supernova until 2019, when we’ll do it all over again and – I’ll give you a 100% guarantee – get just as over-excited about it!
