Zoltán Mujahid: “My song was inspired by a close friend who is battling a terminal illness” (Hungarian finalist – Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Zoltán Mujahid, finalist of the Hungarian national selection for Eurovision 2015 “A Dal”. Zoltán will sing “Beside You” in the final to take place today.

ESC+Plus: Hello! Firstly, congratulations on having qualified for the final of “A Dal” 2015. What did you feel when you were named one of the Hungarian finalists?

I am very happy that the jury appreciated my performance with so high scores. It was worth the hard work, determination and faith in what I am doing.

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical evolution and important achievements?

Music is part of my life since childhood. Since my very young age I have been learning music and singing. I finished Jazz Conservatory and then the Liszt Ferenc University of Musical Arts in Budapest. I am a singer and a composer. I made several albums and participated in various song contests with success.

E+: Why did you decide to take part in A Dal 2015?

Taking part in A Dal is a grand opportunity to come to the limelight, to show my music to a wide audience even outside Hungary.

E+: What it would mean for you to represent Hungary in Vienna?

And old dream to come through. It has been my secret dreamt to be there at Eurovision Song Contest once.

E+: Can you tell us about your song “Beside You” and the story behind the lyrics? How was the composition procedure?

My song was inspired by a close friend who is battling a terminal illness. I wanted her to know that I am by her side all the time and she can rely on me. The song is to show how important support was in somebody’s life. Written in British pop style the main role was assigned to guitar and monumental drums that best express the song’s message.

E+: Would you like to change anything of your stage performance at final?

There will be changes but I don’t want to reveal them now.

E+: What are your main strengths so as to get the support of juries and televote to win the contest?

To be authentic. Since I composed the song myself I feel the emotions that worked in me when I wrote the song and I can convey them from deep inside. I hope the song will touch both the jury and the televoters.

E+: What can this competition contribute to your musical career?

Definitely. I have already received many positive feedbacks.

E+: Do you have any favorite song among the other “A Dal” candidates?

There are many good songs in the competition and I have my favorites amongst them but I want neither to rank them nor to rate them.

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? Do you have any favorite song in the history of the competition?

Eurovision have always been my love. I have watched it in the past and will watch it also in the future. My favorite song ever is Loreen’s Euphoria.
