Interview Eurovision Eurovision 2016 Hungary

Viki Singh: “When I listen to my song, time stops me for 3 minutes” (Hungarian Candidate – Exclusive Interview)

ESC+Plus has talked to Viki Singh, candidate of this year’s Hungarian national selection for Eurovision, “A Dal 2016”. The singer will perform “Katonák” in the 3rd heat set on February 6.

ESC+Plus: Hello! First of all, thank you for your time and congratulations on having been selected to take part in the Estonian national selection for Eurovision 2016.

E+: Can you tell us about you, your musical career and important achievements?

I started working as a singer 15 years ago. I worked in lots of bands as a session singer, and also as a background singer (for example in the Dal 2013 too). In 2015 I was a finalist in a hungarian talent show Rising Star, and after that everything has changed….It gave me the opportunity to show myself to the Hungarian audience. I became more self-confident. I got lots of love and support from the people.

E+: What impelled you to take part in “A Dal 2016”?

It wasn’t among my plans until the song-writers Viktor Fitos and Attila Valla contacted me with the request to enter the competition with this beautiful song.

E+: How did you feel when you knew you had qualified for the heats? Did you expect it?

I’m am very happy to be among the best 30 in Hungary entering The Dal, because I have a great chance to present this song to a wide range of audience, representing Hungary in the Eurovision would give me the opportunity to bring this wonderful song close to the hearts and souls of all the people who will be watching this competition across Europe.

E+: Can you tell us about your song? What is the story behind the lyrics?

This song is a general peace song – it never loses its relevance (it is unfortunately always actual). It is not a “trendy theme”. People talk about this time and time again to raise attention. When I listen to this song, time stops for me for 3 minutes. I hope people will feel the same.

E+: Why do you think your song has to be selected for Stockholm? What are you strengths to reach the top in the competition?

I don’t know… that’s something about the future… if God wants it! 🙂 I’m practising a lot ,and currently preparing my soul for the challenge.

E+: Have you started to prepare your stage performance for “A Dal 2016”?

Yes! But this is top-secret… The stage will be very atmospheric and slightly minimalistic, I can give away that much.:)

E+: If you win A Dal, will you sing in English or in Hungarian at Eurovision?

This song has born Hungarian from a Hungarian songwriter… I think in English it would be not the same…

E+: Do you usually watch Eurovision? What are your favorite songs of the history of the competition?

Yes I always follow it. I love Euphoria by Loreen, and Rise like a phoenix from Conchita… I love to sing these songs as well!:)

E+: If you could choose a Eurovision former participant to sing along with, who would it be?

Loreen..

E+: Besides Eurovision, what are your plans for this year?

Now I want to concentrate only for this competition, and then,…we will see… 🙂 naturally I would like to work on new songs, and meet with my audience as often as I possibly can.

E+: Finally, can you send a message for our readers and Eurovision fans?

I wish everyone a very good time during the Eurovision competition and I hope you will all find a song that you will truly enjoy and can relate to…

E+: Thanks for your time and good luck!

  1. Her song is beautiful & i like it 🙂 But the disadvtantage is that it has similar theme with the song 8Wars 4 Nothing* of dear Boggie that she represented Hungary last year in the Vision of Vienna..
So the question here is IF Hungarians will chose again for a 2nd time in row a pro-peace song to represent them in the Vision like this one..

Anyway…Wishing my good luck to Viki & i hope that she wiLl qualify to the SF 🙂
